OF AGED MIND

Benches, steel sheets welded
Fences, wooden posts barbed iron
Flowers, green-yellow and brown leaves,
Meeting, rusty roof, potholed cemented floor.

Resting spine, sole of shoes on ground,
Look around, road binding, Victoria wound,
By civil institutions; church, school, police club,
What my town knows as the, ‘Tower of Power’, too.

Ponder and jocund descend, this sad state,
All this time nothing much has changed at all,
Trees are branches; blades are the green grass,
Dust is soil while the rocks are still solid as stones.

Maybe your change could be pollution,
As they neutralize the hills with adventures,
The elderly jog around as if chasing lost time,
Suddenly I too feel as if time has stolen something.

In those slow thoughts, friends vanished,
Couples across, in love like it’s a new emotion,
Other young beings walked with child or two oblivious,
Aging mind took notice, as my journal folded into dog years.
